PHC SVD acts in Ondoy’s aftermath
The PHC Provincialate, through the Characteristic Dimensions Secretariat, organized relief efforts for the flood victims. The residents of Catholic Trade Community donated clothing, and other items were solicited from friends. Notices were posted in the internet (through email and social networking sites like Facebook) and response was quick from SVDs from other Provinces, as well as lay people here and abroad. In the late afternoon of September 29, freshly cooked food was brought to residents of Provident Village in Marikina, one of the hardest hit areas.
In other developments, Fr. Menguito and Fr. Randy Flores reported of the involvement of the DWST fratres in the Ateneo relief efforts. Fr. Bernard Collera reported also of relief efforts initiated by St. Jude Catholic School.
In CKMS, the XVDs were quick to respond to the needs of fellow XVDs devastated by the flood in Marikina and other places. The seminarians were also involved in relief operations at Ateneo and Sacred Heart Parish in Kamuning.
The faculty and students of DWC Calapan sent canned goods to the Provincialate for distribution in St. Arnold Janssen Shrine-Parish in Cainta. Employees and priests/brothers of the Provincialate Community repacked the relief goods for easier distribution.
DWC Legazpi pledged cash donations for the relief efforts.
The Provincialate also released social action funds to aid employees at the Provincialate who suffered damages from the floods.
The SVD parishes in Kamuning, Dampalit and Smokey Mountain mobilized their parishioners also for relief operations.
A Filipino community in Germany through Fr. Willie Escalante SVD sent cash amounting to 34,250 pesos.
South Korea through Fr. Felixberto Perez SVD sent 11,700 pesos.
A Religious Education teacher in HNU (Bohol) collected from her students 7, 571.00, according to an e-mail by Fr. Kito Estepa SVD.
PHS sent by plane bales of used clothing.
Fr. General called up that aid will be expected from the Generalate.
Fr. Nards Mercene of Australia pledged help, as well as SVD Canada though Fr. Caloy Macatangga SVD.
Fr. Briccio Tamoro SVD e-mailed that they are collecting donations from Fil-Ams in California.
