The SVD PHC ARCHIVES
By "ARCHIVES" we mean a place where people can go to gather firsthand facts, data and information from primary and other important sources of information, like original documents, records of important events, decisions and transactions, reports, letters, and related audio-visual materials.
The SVD PHC Archives is the SVD Philippine Central Province collection of documents related to the beginnings, development and history of the Society of the Divine Word in the Philippines and the SVD World. The Provincial Archivist is the person in charge of the archives. He administers, directs, monitors the organization, classification, preservation and maintenance of these materials and makes them available and accessible for research.
Some of the oldest materials in the Provincial Archives date back to the founding of the SVD Philippine mission in 1909. The story of the beginnings, growth and subsequent development of the SVD mission in the Philippines are being told by the letters of missionaries, documented records of negotiations and agreements with Local Ordinaries and key-persons, artifacts and audio-visual materials that are being kept in the SVD PHC Archives - a concrete testimony to the workings of God's Spirit through the men who had worked in the Lord's Vineyard in this part of the world. Some of the more recent holdings include electronic files that will soon be made available online through access to archives databases.
OUR MISSION
The SVD PHC Archives wants people to know about the Society of the Divine Word and its humble contribution to evangelization in the Philippines through its multitude of missionary involvement for human promotion and community development, professional, social, and spiritual advancement of the people through its missionary work and its educational institutions. To this end we make available the primary and other important sources of information contained in the SVD PHC Archives for study and research to anyone interested. We aim eventually too make these materials readily accessible through online Access to Archival Database by organizing our archival materials in the best form possible through the use of modem technology.
